Crank Angle Sensors and Cam Angle Sensors are mounted on the engine and provide to the Electronic Control Module, ECM, Electronic Control Unit, ECU, or Powertrain Control Module, PCM, information of the position or angle of the crankshaft or cam shaft. Early 1980 vehicles such as BMW, Porsche, Volvo with the Bosch DME Electronic Control Module used two Crank Angle Sensors on the flywheel. Vehicles in the 1990's and 2000 onwards can have a Crank Angle Sensor both housed within a distribution assembly or they may have a Crank Angle Sensor mounted near the rotating cam pulley.
